Community Seminar: Anxiety problems in students across the spectrum from the mild to the severe end (Updated)

Community Seminar supported by two organizations.

Date: 11 May 2018 (Friday)
Time: 7:00–9:00pm (Refreshment would be served before seminar)
Venue: Multi-function Room, D Ground, QEH

Anxious feelings, worries and fears are common among children and adolescents. Many are manage to get through and cope well. Some however, become overwhelmed by these fearful or dreadful feelings or they may get stuck on their worrying thoughts. Eventually they feel distressed or their daily functioning (e.g. going to school, playing, making friends, falling asleep ...) may become impaired. Milder anxiety problems can be dealt with in the community setting by trained youth workers. The moderate and severe cases often require more intensive and sometimes multi-disciplinary professional help.

This seminar aims at giving the participants a perspective of the whole spectrum of child and adolescent anxiety problems from the mild to the severe end which may affect our students causing personal distress or functional impairment. Case examples will be used to illustrate the broad range of evidence-based interventions in different tiers ranging from mass screening, community management, psychological intervention and pharmacological treatment.
